Norwegian monster movie “Kraken,” directed by Pål Øie, has secured several key European distribution deals in anticipation of its 2025 release. The film, inspired by the legendary deep-sea creature of Nordic folklore, has been acquired by Splendid Film for Germany, Mediawan Rights for France, and Youplanet for Spain. These new deals follow earlier sales to North America, courtesy of Samuel Goldwyn Films, and Latin America, courtesy of Gussi.

In “Kraken,” marine biologist Johanne delves into mysterious events linked to a local fjord. As the deadly occurrences escalate, she uncovers a terrifying myth lurking beneath the water’s surface — a giant, multi-armed monster with the capability to destroy everything in its path.

The production of “Kraken” is a collaboration between John Einar Hagen and Einar Loftesnes of Nordisk Film Production, who previously worked with Øie on the 2019 feature “The Tunnel,” and Handmade Films in Norwegian Woods. The project received additional support from the Norwegian Film Institute, Mediefondet Zefyr, Vestnorsk Filmcenter, Business Finland, and the cities of Turku and Tampere.

International sales for “Kraken” are handled by TrustNordisk, which is engaging with buyers at this year’s European Film Market (EFM). This monster film is set to captivate audiences with its thrilling narrative and the legendary sea monster at its core.
