O Seleto Recebe Exclusiva Transmissão nos EUA na Prime Video pelo Acordo Expansivo entre Amazon e Estúdios MGM

Amazon’s Prime Video has secured exclusive U.S. streaming rights for the biblical epic series “The Chosen,” as well as the unscripted spinoff “The Chosen In The Wild with Bear Grylls,” as part of a comprehensive new deal with 5&2 Studios and Amazon MGM Studios. This agreement also includes a theatrical release component for the next two installments of the series, which follows the life of Jesus Christ, played by Jonathan Roumie.

The deal was announced during a livestream on 5&2 Studios’ YouTube page and comes as the studio prepares to release Season 5 of “The Chosen” in theaters next month. Following the theatrical release, “The Chosen” Season 5 will premiere exclusively on Amazon’s Prime Video in the U.S. this June. Additionally, the series will be available on Prime Video in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Sub-Saharan Africa, the UK, and Latin America, although on a non-exclusive basis.

Under this agreement, Prime Video will also acquire exclusive U.S. streaming rights to the first five seasons of “The Chosen” and all future seasons. previously, “The Chosen” was available on multiple platforms, including Netflix, Hulu, and Peacock, but those deals have expired in recent months. The show has also been broadcast linearly in primetime on The CW, but it is unclear whether Season 5 will receive a broadcast run.

Amazon MGM Studios will now hold theatrical distribution rights to the next two installments of “The Chosen,” which will cover the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, making up Seasons 6 and 7 of the series. Currently, Season 5 is set to be distributed in the U.S. by Fathom and internationally by Trafalgar Releasing. This continues the unique distribution model that “The Chosen” has employed since its launch as a crowdfunded indie short in 2017, including theatrical releases, linear broadcasts, and streaming.

5&2 Studios founder Dallas Jenkins had been seeking an exclusive distribution partner for “The Chosen” since gaining full ownership of the series after an arbitration ruling ended the relationship between Jenkins’ The Chosen LLC and former partner Angel Studios. “For several years, the team at Amazon MGM Studios has demonstrated their passion for this show and our fans,” said Jenkins. “They will help us improve and reach more people, and I look forward to building this relationship.”

Jenkins launched 5&2 Studios in September after the arbitration ruling gave him control of “The Chosen.” At the time, he revealed plans to expand the “The Chosen” universe with several new projects, including “The Chosen In The Wild with Bear Grylls.” Other projects in development include “The Chosen Adventures,” a youthful take on the Jesus story featuring voice actors like Paul Walter Hauser and Yvonne Orji. After “The Chosen” concludes, Jenkins plans to write, direct, and showrun a three-season series about the life of Moses.

The deal with Amazon MGM Studios includes a first-look series and film deal with 5&2 Studios. “‘The Chosen’ has achieved renowned success in captivating audiences across generations, and we are excited to collaborate with Dallas and 5&2 Studios on a larger scale,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios. “As we look ahead, we see significant opportunities to develop additional faith-inspired content for our global Prime Video customers.”

The deal was negotiated by Lionsgate, which handles global distribution for “The Chosen” and “The Chosen In The Wild with Bear Grylls,” in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, while CAA handled the first-look component. “Amazon MGM Studios is the perfect partner to take this highly sought-after property to the next level,” said Lionsgate’s Jim Packer, president of worldwide television distribution. “This wide-ranging, multi-territory deal presents a unique opportunity to deepen engagement with ‘The Chosen’s’ loyal fanbase while drawing in new viewers around the world.”

Season 5 of “The Chosen,” dubbed “The Chosen: Last Supper,” is set to release in theaters starting March 27, 2025, in three parts over a four-week period. The logline for Season 5 reads: “The table is set. The people of Israel welcome Jesus as king while his disciples anticipate his crowning. But—instead of confronting Rome—he turns the tables on the Jewish religious festival. Their power threatened, the country’s religious and political leaders will go to any length to ensure this Passover meal is Jesus’ last.”

The six-episode “The Chosen In The Wild with Bear Grylls” will feature Bear Grylls taking the cast of “The Chosen” and director Dallas Jenkins on wilderness adventures, exploring their personal journeys and pushing them to their limits. Besides CAA, 5&2 Studios is also represented by Andrew Kramer of Willkie Farr & Gallagher, LLP.
